Roche Mind Experience

A live EEG show that turned personalized health from a slogan into a moment doctors could feel.

ROCHE · JANUARY 2019

01 — Brief

Brief

In 2019, Roche was set to share its personalized healthcare vision with Turkish doctors at Healthcare Innovation Now. The room would be packed: doctors, Roche staff, industry people. All of them had sat through thousands of slides and hundreds of innovation talks.

The brief came through event agency Fabric House: instead of repeating Roche's "two patients, two treatments" line in another keynote, design a stage moment that lets doctors physically experience it. Not a slide. A memory.

Eight brains in the same room, hearing the same song, never hear the same song — that is what personalized medicine actually means.
02 — Insight

Insight

Telling doctors "every patient is different" isn't a thing. They know. In clinical language, "personalized medicine" is undeniably true and undeniably worn out — the kind of phrase that disappears after the slide.

The real force lies in showing it live, in the moment, and in a way that can't be argued with. The brain is the most invisible but most uncompromising proof of what "personal" actually means: in the same room, listening to the same song, two people's neural signatures are never the same. If we could put that difference up on stage as two distinct visuals side by side, the doctor would stop hearing the clinical line and start remembering something they saw with their own eyes.

03 — The Idea

The Idea

We turned Roche Healthcare Innovation Now into a live stage show. We invited eight volunteers from the audience, brought them on stage, blindfolded them, and fitted them with Emotiv EEG headsets.

Live music started — first calm, slow tones; then the rhythm hardened, the track sped up. Simultaneously, the volunteers' brain signals were projected onto the giant screen behind them: eight distinct visuals, eight color rhythms, eight different mind maps. The room watched, with their own eyes, how eight people in the same environment process the same input in completely different ways.

The show's closing line was delivered without a microphone: the screen held all eight visuals side by side, the doctors looked, the rest understood itself. Roche's "personalized healthcare" message didn't come from a slide — it came from the neural signature of eight volunteers.

The show was hosted live on stage by our CEO Atilla Baybara — narrator, coordinator and live visual cut director, all at once.

Emotiv EEG on Stage

Eight volunteers were called to the stage, blindfolded, fitted with Emotiv EEG headsets. The room held its breath — eight people on stage, eyes closed, ears open.

Live Music: Calm to Fast

Live music opened calm, then the rhythm hardened. A deliberate contrast designed to catch the brain's shifting response — the same person on stage stops being the same person when the music changes.

Eight Brains, Eight Visuals

Same song, same room, eight different mind maps. The screen showed Roche's "personalized medicine" message without anyone having to say it.

Real-Time Giant Screen

EEG signals streamed to the giant screen behind the stage with millisecond latency. Brain shifted, visual shifted — no layer of abstraction between the data and the show.

04 — Execution

Execution

The challenge of this show wasn't technical — it was ceremonial. Pulling live data from an EEG headset, visualizing it, projecting it on stage — all of that is solvable engineering. The real challenge was meeting the rhythm of the room with the rhythm of the volunteers' brains in the same stage moment.

Scope

  • Concept development — translating Roche's personalized healthcare message into stage language
  • Real-time data streaming infrastructure from Emotiv EEG headsets
  • Custom software turning EEG signals into live visuals
  • Sub-millisecond projection to the giant stage screen
  • Live music show direction — the timing of the calm-to-fast transition
  • Stage design, lighting and volunteer movement choreography
  • Live show direction by CEO Atilla Baybara on stage

05 — Results

Results

  • Roche's personalized healthcare vision became visible on stage — we turned a slogan into a memory
  • The single moment doctors talked about leaving the venue: the side-by-side visuals of two brains hearing the same song
  • The first live EEG stage show ever staged at a pharmaceutical industry event in Turkey
  • Became the closing moment of Healthcare Innovation Now — zero slides, maximum message
  • Cited internally at Roche Turkey for years as the moment the brand told its own vision back to itself
